Background
- In March 2014, the Parent Support & Resource Centre Coordinator and Youth Services Coordinator staff from Sylvan Lake FCSS travelled to Innisfail to meet with other Violence prevention groups including the Vision for Non-Violence group.
- Decisions made at the meeting
- Sylvan Lake could adopt the Vision for Non-Violence name
- It would be beneficial to have a Regional Family Violence Coalition
- Sylvan Lake’s Parent Support & Resource Centre Coordinator, Central Alberta Child and Family Services Family Violence Specialist, and Innisfail’s Community Facilitator met to discuss planning the first annual ‘Creating a Vision for Non-Violence’ conference where the idea of creating a regional coalition would be raised.
- In February 2014, the Parent Support & Resource Centre Coordinator and Youth Services Coordinator from Sylvan Lake FCSS attended a meeting hosted by Innisfail’s Community Facilitator regarding Family Violence and Bullying in Innisfail. Sylvan Lake FCSS staff shared information about the creation and work to date of the Sylvan Lake Family Violence & Bullying Coalition.
- November 4th, 2014 the first ‘Creating a Vision for Non-Violence’ conference was held, and there was overwhelming support for a regional coalition.
- The first regional coalition meeting was held in March of 2015 in Innisfail.
